About Tom Brown

Tom Brown is cofounder and chief compute officer of startup Anthropic, which builds large-scale artificial intelligence systems.

He cofounded Anthropic in 2021 with six other ex-OpenAI employees.

Anthropic, which private investors valued at $380 billion in February 2026, has partnerships with Google's parent company Alphabet and Amazon.

While working at OpenAI, Brown served as lead author of the white paper that introduced the GPT-3 language model.

Brown studied computer science and cognitive science at MIT. He cofounded his first company, social club Grouper, in 2011.
