About Jared Kaplan

Jared Kaplan is cofounder and chief science officer of Anthropic, which builds large-scale artificial intelligence systems.

He cofounded Anthropic in 2021 with six other ex-OpenAI employees.

Anthropic, which private investors valued at $380 billion in February 2026, has partnerships with Google's parent company Alphabet and Amazon.

Kaplan is a theoretical physicist with a PhD from Harvard. His research has been focused on quantum gravity and machine learning.

He became a professor at Johns Hopkins University in 2012 but is currently on leave.
