He used to own 25% of logistics firm Supreme Group, with the rest held by his business partner Stephen Orenstein. Supreme Group was the primary supplier of food and water to the U.S. army in Afghanistan.

The firm was founded in 1957 to supply food to U.S. military bases in Germany by Orenstein's father Alfred, a former U.S. army soldier. Gans joined the company after Orenstein took over in 1985.
