The bulk of Dona Bertarelli's wealth comes from the 2007 sale of her family's biotech business Serono for over $13 billion.

In the 1990s Dona was Serono's executive director of public and professional affairs.

Her brother Ernesto is the richest man in Switzerland. They split ownership of most family assets.

She now focuses her time on marine conservation efforts and is a special adviser to the United Nations.
