About Clifford Illig
Clifford Illig cofounded what became healthcare IT services company Cerner in 1979.
Illig, Neal Patterson and another colleague at consulting firm Arthur Andersen conceived the idea for Cerner while studying for a CPA exam in a park.
By 1984, they'd raised $3 million. Two years later, the founders took the company public.
Illig served as Cerner COO through 1998.
Since the 2009 HITECH law that forced U.S. hospital records to go digital Cerner's revenues have grown to $4.8 billion.
