Chen Dongsheng is the founder and chairman of Taikang Insurance Group, one of China's largest insurers.

Taikang also has interests in asset management and health and elderly care.

Chen's wife is the granddaughter of Mao Zedong, the communist revolutionary who became the founding father of the People's Republic of China.

Chen is a member of the board of directors of Xiaomi, one of the world's most popular smartphone brands.

Early in his career, Chen worked as deputy editor of Management World, a publication of the Development Research Center of China's State Council.
